Protest: Former Minister N. Dalavai Sundaram addressing AIADMK cadres during the fast in Palayamkottai on Sunday. TIRUNELVELI: Condemning the attack on their general secretary Jayalalithaa at Pasumpon village recently when she had gone to pay homage to Muthuramalinga Thevar, over 700 All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries observed fast at Jawahar Grounds, Palayamkottai on Sunday. Inaugurating the protest, former minister N. Thalavai Sundaram said the Tamil Nadu Police, “which was the most disciplined law enforcement agency in the entire nation when Ms. Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” had lost its credibility after M. Karunanidhi became the Chief Minister. “While the lower level police officials remain as mute spectators for unlawful activities of all sorts like the barbaric clash that took place on the Madras Law College premises, senior officers, who hunted down forest brigand Veerappan, were opting for Central Services. It shows the official machinery’s failure that led to the attack on Ms. Jayalalithaa,” Mr. Thalavai Sundaram alleged. He charged that the State government had released National Security Act detenue J. Guru “for political reasons”. “To register a resounding victory”The former minister said the AIADMK would register resounding victory in the next Parliamentary elections as a formidable electoral alliance was being formed in Tamil Nadu to take on Mr. Karunanidhi. Former minister Nainar Nagendran, former MLA P.G. Rajendran, party presidium chairman S. Murugesan, former Mayor A. Jayarani, party office-bearers Popular V. Muthiah, Kamaraj, M.C. Rajan, Thatchai N. Raja, Senthil Arumugam, Sudha K. Paramasivan, Sankaralingam, Councillors Vallikannu, Paul Kannan were among those who participated in the hunger strike.
