Jalandhar part of World Bank’s new project

New initiative to strengthen non-motorised transport system in India


MCJ to get a soft loan of Rs. 200 crore


Jalandhar: The World Bank has chosen the city of Jalandhar for a special project to strengthen non-motorised transport system in India. It is one of the five cities chosen for the project and will a get soft loan of Rs.200 crore for the same.

Punjab Industrial Development Board has already engaged an Australian company to prepare a detailed project report, in which about 80 kilometre road network inside the city would be constructed at per international standards, Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar (MCJ) Mayor Rakesh Rathore said.

We have already submitted a proposal regarding the project to the World Bank and it has in principal agreed to extend soft loan of Rs. 200 to the MCJ for the project, he added.

The Mayor further revealed that the MCJ has got its first instalment of the total of grant of Rs.350 crore sanctioned by the Centre to strengthen sewage and water supply system in the city.

He said the MCJ has decided to sell off vacant land lying with the corporation.
