“Fingerprints help crack several crime cases”

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu is leading other States in using the science of fingerprint in solving cases, according to Director-General of Police K.P. Jain.
Speaking at the launch of two books on fingerprint here on Friday, Mr. Jain said, “Around 60 per cent of the total cases in India using fingerprint is from Tamil Nadu.”
Most of the States do not apply the science of lifting and comparing fingerprints, he said.
Mr. Jain stressed the need for instituting an award for encouraging fingerprint experts in the State to promote the maximum use of fingerprint.
Former Director-General of Police V.R. Lakshminarayanan said that he would make an endowment to institute the award for honouring the officers with the Fingerprint Bureau in the State every year.
Fingerprint was a piece of evidence that could never lie, he said.
“Initiatives should be taken to create a National Civilian Fingerprint Bureau. National security can be strengthened by this,” said A.M. Padmanaban, author of the book ‘Role of Fingerprint Science in Police and Judiciary.’
The increasing number of problems with property transactions could be solved using innovations in fingerprinting effectively, he said.
