Civil Defence Day celebrated

Volunteers participate in mock rescue operations

‘Un’real: A demonstration of fire fighting by a trained Civil Defence volunteer on Friday.

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) conducted Civil Defence Day demonstrations on Friday as part of the All-India Civil Defence Week, which is being observed between December 1 and 7. About 110 Civil Defence Volunteers participated in mock rescue operations conducted at Hyderabad Railway Divisional Office at Secunderabad.

Chief Guest of the event, Divisional Railway Manager Narottam Das said, services of Civil Defence volunteers would be of great help in times of untoward incidents such as external attacks, internal turmoil and natural calamities. He appealed the Railway employees to join the Civil Defence Organisation as volunteers.

Modes of rescue

In the mock drill, volunteers rescued many injured people by deploying rescue operations such as flying box method, tow parallel rope, sliding ladder method and structure lashing, among others. Mr. Das announced a reward of Rs.5,000 for volunteers who performed a rescue demonstration.
