Afghan team ‘impressed’ by BSES

NEW DELHI: A visiting delegation led by Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister for Energy, Ahmed Wali Shairzay, met officials of power distribution company BSES here to share the experience and the know-how of power privatisation in Delhi.

The delegation sought information on issues like distribution and commercial losses, the role of information technology in power distribution, and capital investments.

Following an interaction with senior BSES officials and the company’s Chief Executive Officer Arun Kanchan, the Afghan delegation visited BSES’ state-of-the-art Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) Centre – the nerve centre of its distribution network.

“The visiting dignitaries were interested to know about the experiences, challenges and learning of the process of privatisation in Delhi,” said a BSES spokesperson.

The high-power Afghan delegation has come to India under the aegis of USAID’s South Asia Regional Initiative/Energy programme, to interact with leading power sector experts – including those in the Government.

“I am much impressed by the spectacular turnaround brought about by BSES. We would like to tap their resources/work with them,” Mr. Shairzay said on the conclusion of his four-hour-long visit.
