Jeev in lead

TOKYO: India’s Jeev Milkha Singh shot an even-par 70 Friday to take a one-stroke lead at the Nippon Series Cup golf tournament.

Jeev, who was tied for second after the first round, made five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in rainy conditions to hold the halfway lead at 6-under 134.

Toshinori Muto (70) and Katsumasa Miyamnoto (71) were a further stroke back.

Japanese teenager Ryo Ishikawa, who last weekend became the youngest golfer on the Japanese tour to reach $1 million in single-year winnings, shot a 69 and was two strokes off the lead.

The Nippon Series is the last event of the season on the Japan Tour and features this year’s tournament winners and players who finished among the top 25 in the money rankings through last week’s Casio Open. — AP
