‘Privatisation’ of water supply opposed

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: The MoU with Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and Jamshdepur Utilities and Services Company Ltd. (JUSCO) for maintenance and distribution of water in Mysore is running into rough weather as there is opposition brewing against it.

The Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) has convened a public meeting on December 7 at 10.30 a.m., at the Institution of Engineers, to “discuss the attitude” of the MCC in handing over the management of water supply to a private company.

It has expressed concern that privatisation of water supply will result in citizens paying exorbitant bills, and has urged the public to oppose the move and send a resolution to the Union Government against it. A similar view was expressed by an activist working for a leading NGO. He urged the MCC to bring the contract details into the public domain and allow a debate on the issue.
