13 project proposals to be sent for JNNURM approval Chennai: The State government will seek funding under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to improve infrastructure – stormwater drains, underground sewerage and drinking water supply – in the city and its suburbs at the cost of Rs. 2,256 crore. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin here on Thursday, according to a government release. Thirteen project proposals were submitted at the meeting to be sent for the JNNURM approval. The Chennai Corporation and the Public Works Department have submitted a proposal for flood mitigation in the city at the cost of Rs.1,538.04 crore. The Chennai Metrowater has given a proposal to improve drinking water supply in the Alandur Municipality at the cost of Rs.47.50 crore and in the Ambattur Municipality at a cost of Rs.193.50 crore. A sewage treatment plant with a capacity of treating 54 million litres a day had been planned at Nesapakkam at an outlay of Rs. 51.48 crore. The Metrowater had submitted a plan for underground sewerage in the Tambaram Municipality at Rs.148.90 crore. Underground sewerage projects had also been proposed in the following town panchayats: Chitlapakkam – Rs.24.96 crore; Pallikaranai – Rs.50.55 crore; Peerkankaranai – Rs.19.55 crore; Perungudi – Rs.18.17 crore; Sembakkam – Rs.50.55 crore; Thirumazhisai – Rs.20.40 crore, Perungalathur – Rs.42.63 crore and Madambakkam – Rs.49.75 crore. TUFIDCO Managing Director M.A. Gowrishankar, PWD Secretary S. Audiseshiah, Highways Secretary K. Allaudin, Planning and Development Secretary C. Chandramouli, Municipal Administration Secretary Niranjan Mardi, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Managing Director Swaran Singh, Finance Special Secretary Praveen Kumar, Town Panchayats Commissioner K. Gopal, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni, Metrowater Managing Director Sunil Paliwal and Municipal Administration director Senthil Kumar participated in the meeting.
