Tanker emerging out of a beach landing craft at Ramakrishna Beach during Navy Day celebrations in the city on Thursday. — VISAKHAPATNAM: The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) celebrated Navy Day on Thursday. On this day in 1971, Indian Navy boats with lethal and powerful missiles attacked the Karachi harbour, paving way for a great victory for India. On this occasion, all the personnel of the ENC rededicate themselves to the service of the country and to protecting the vast maritime boundaries and the national assets off the Eastern Seaboard. The ENC on Thursday paid homage to service personnel, who made the supreme sacrifice in various actions including 1971 War. A floral wreath was placed by Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, at the Navy War Memorial. Wreaths were also placed by president of the Navy Foundation Vice Admiral (Retd) AVR Narayan Rao and Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer Captain (Retd) Satya Prasad. Guard of honourA 50-men guard of honour was paraded on the occasion. A two-minute silence was observed.
