Expressing solidarity: College students and YI members take out a rally in Chennai on Thursday.

CHENNAI: The youth in Chennai are not far behind their Mumbai counterparts in raising their voice against terrorism. On Thursday, hundreds of college students and members of Young Indians, which is part of the Confederation of Indian Industry, held a rally in the city to condemn terrorism and appealed for peace in society.

Adding a dash of glamour to the event were actors Srikanth and Trisha, who signed a white flag underscoring the significance of ensuring peace in the country.

Ram Sukumar, Chairman, YI Chennai, said it was only incidental that the rally comes after the Mumbai terror attacks. “Actually, we had planned the rally way back in October,” he said. “YI Mumbai is also planning a rally to protest against terrorism in a show of solidarity,” he said.

E.Vinya, a student coordinator of YI Chennai who led the rally, said the group had got signatures on a white flag from over 1,000 students from different colleges in the city and would send it to the Prime Minister’s Office, New Delhi, as a statement condemning acts of terror.

Students of Jeppiaar Engineering College, Stella Maris College, SRM Engineering College and Maamallan Institute of Technology participated.
