He was presiding over a function to mark the International Day for People with Disabilities here.

The State Government had come out with several welfare measures for the uplift of people with disabilities, daily wage workers, agriculture workers and the poor. The Government was planning to raise the annual income limit of people with disabilities to Rs. 30,000, Mr. Ranjan said, according to a press release. S.G. President of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Deerghakeshi Shivanna said the Government should think of providing permanent benefits to people with disabilities.

President of the Karnataka State Angavikalara Parishat Suresh Kumar, who inaugurated the programme, sought that the Government release adequate funds to ensure the welfare of such people. Children with disabilities who had won various sports and games competitions were felicitated on the occasion.
