Hyderabad Globe beats Shastri club

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Globe defeated Shastri Soccer Club 3-2 in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here on Thursday.

Globe took the lead in the 19th minute when striker D. Nikesh positioned himself well for a neat cross from the right by H.L. Zama to find the target.

However, Shastri equalised within seven minutes when striker Sashank dribbled past two closely marked defenders to slot the ball into the far corner of the net.

In the second session, Shastri took the lead in the 49th minute. Left-in Rahul was on target. However, within seconds, Globe levelled the scores again through mid-filder Farooq. In the dying seconds, Nikesh scored the match-winner for Globe.

Salunke shines

A. Salunke (five for nine) helped Ajanta record a 75-run win over Nagarjuna in the 24th all-India Atomic Energy cricket tournament.

The scores: Rameswaram 98 for nine (Dasarath four for 10) lost to Ellora 100 for five (Dasarath 42 not out).

Dwaraka 130 for nine (Umesh More 57) lost to Golconda 131 for five (Waheed 45 n.o.); Ajanta 173 for two (Shaktivel 79, M. Shahid 64 n.o.) bt Nagarjuna 98 (A. Salunke five for nine); Konark 107 lost to Pushkar 110 for seven.

Taekwondo meet

The 18th Hyderabad district taekwondo championship will be held at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium from Dec. 13 to 14.

Corporate table tennis

The sixth Andhra Bank Corporate table tennis tournament will be held at Anandnagar Welfare Association Sports Academy (Khairatabad) from Dec. 6 to 7.

The top two finishers in the various categories will be selected to represent the City in the all-India inter-city corporate championship to be held in Bangalore.

The incentive for the winners here is a holiday trip to Colombo by Sri Lanka Holiday group for three days.
