Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress Legislature Party has registered its strong protest against the decision to hold a sitting of the Assembly on December 12 disregarding the inconvenience of Congress MLAs who would be away to attend the party’s State conference in Kochi. In a letter to Speaker K. Radhakrishnan, CLP secretary K.C. Joseph said the business advisory committee of the House had unanimously decided to extend the sitting for three more days from December 17. The session was scheduled to end on December 11, but on account of the Chief Minister’s request the meeting had arrived at the unanimous decision on the extension of the session. The dates had been decided on the basis of Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy’s statement on the State conference of the party. However, the BAC meeting that was held on December 3 in the absence of the Opposition members had disregarded the Congress MLAs inconvenience while deciding to hold a sitting on December 12. Mr. Joseph said the decision to allot December 12 for legislative business was inappropriate as it falls on a Friday which is usually kept apart for private members business.
