YSR rebuts ‘factionalist’ charges

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy took pains in the Assembly on Thursday to rebut the charge repeatedly levelled against him by Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu that he is a factionalist.

Dr. Reddy said although he knew the identity of the killers of his father Y. S. Raja Reddy, neither he nor is family members resorted to reprisal. On the other hand, the case against the person was withdrawn and he was appointed Chairman of Pulivendula market committee, he said while replying to a debate on the law and order situation. “With this bent of mind would I have brought people from Vijayawada and Kadapa to trigger communal riots in Hyderabad to unseat the then Chief Minister M. Channa Reddy as alleged by Mr Naidu?,” he asked.

Claiming that the police officers were not vulnerable to political pressures, he denied shifting IAS and IPS officers for extraneous considerations or having ever said that the death of six members of a Muslim family at Vatoli in Adilabad district was caused by electrical short-circuit.
