Woman sets herself ablaze

JOLARPET: A 27-year-old woman died of burns on Thursday, after she set herself ablaze at her residence near Jolarpet on Wednesday. Her one-and-a-half year-old son, who also suffered burns, died.

According to the police, Deepa, a resident of Chinnamoopanoor near Jolarpet, owned a grocery shop. She was believed to be suffering from severe stomach pain.

On Wednesday night, unable to bear severe stomach pain, she doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze. Her three children, who tried to rescue her, suffered burns. All four of them were admitted to Tirupattur Government Hospital and later referred to Kilpauk Government Hospital, Chennai. The little boy succumbed while being shifted. Deepa died during treatment and her two other children were being treated.
