Financial crisis drives girl to suicide
Jalandhar: A 19-year-old girl on Thursday committed suicide in Esa Nagar locality here allegedly due to acute financial crisis in her family.
The deceased identified as Sonia set herself ablaze by pouring kerosene. Before the neighbours could intervene she sustained more than 60 per cent burns, police sources said adding that she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
During the investigation, it came to light that the girl’s father died a few months ago and the family was under heavy debt due to recent marriage of the elder daughter of the family. Although Sonia and her sister were working, their salary was not sufficient to meet even daily needs.
The deceased could not bear the tension and decided to take the extreme step, police added.
