Security up for masjid demolition anniversary

CLOSE EXAMINATION: Bomb detection and disposal squad personnel checking the baggage of a passenger at new bus stand in Palayamkottai on Thursday. —

TIRUNELVELI: Security has been beefed up in the district in view of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary that falls on Saturday.

Bomb detection and Disposal Squad members checked the baggage of commuters in the new bus stand at Vaeinthaankulam and Tirunelveli Railway Junction with metal detectors. All platforms were checked for explosives.

Armed policemen deployed

Armed police personnel have been deployed in front of all important temples in the district including Sri Nellaiyappar Gandhimathi Ambal Temple and Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple.

Patrolling has been intensified on all important highways and vehicle check is being conducted. Lodges and hotels have been brought under close monitoring.
