Rediscover the volunteer in you!

BHUBANESWAR: Have you lost your proclivity for volunteerism somewhere in the pursuit of a career? Here is an opportunity to rediscover the spirit.

A volunteer job fair will be organised in the city where potential volunteers will be tapped through inspirational talks and description of success stories on Saturday.

The fair coincided with the International Days of HIV/AIDS (December 1), Disability (December 3), Volunteering (December 6) and Human Rights (December 10).

“Often people pass by and see hungry children living on the street, they hear of thousands of turtles dying on the beach, they want to do something for people who have lost their homes in the flood, but they don’t know how or where to help,” said Sujit Mahapatra, a member of the organising committee.

He said, “This is an opportunity for those people to meet up with NGOs who work in the areas of poverty, education, sanitation, environment, human rights, HIV/Aids, and many more, to find out how they can get involved”.

The event will be organised by VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) in association with Bakul Foundation, CYSD and UNDP.

“Often people think about getting jobs with NGOs. This is not a job fair, it is for people who want to become volunteer, whether it is on an occasional or regular basis, teaching kids, caring for suffering people, protecting wildlife or maybe helping during disasters,” Mr. Mohapatra said.
