KOLKATA: West Bengal’s Criminal Investigation Department will look into reports that some SIM cards found in the mobiles of those who carried out the terrorist attacks in Mumbai were procured from the State, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said here on Wednesday. On whether any fresh directives had been issued to the local mobile service providers on issuing SIM cards to customers, he said that the regulations that called for listing of their addresses and showing of identity cards at the time of purchase were in place. Mr. Kanojia said that West Bengal has been on high alert since the Mumbai attacks and security has been stepped up in shopping malls, markets, railway stations and the city airport. CCTV and metal detectors were being installed at important installations, he added. The police force is being upgraded to handle any eventuality though there has been no specific security threat to Kolkata, he said.
