Can an additional letter in your name make a fortune for you ?

G. Krishnakumar

KOCHI: Popular adman Saboo Coloniaa was Sabu Colonia before he deleted the alphabet ‘u’ and added two ‘o’ to have a new name. He also added one ‘a’ to his popular ad agency, Colonia.

The case is the same with actor Narain. He was Sunil Kumar when director Jayaraj’s ‘For the People’ hit the big screen in 2004. Film director Shaji Kailas added ‘The’ to his Suresh Gopi starrer ‘Tiger’ hoping that the change in the name would change the fortune of his film at the box office. And the director feels that it clicked.

From commoners to film personalities and businessmen, the art of numerology is catching up fast among people who strongly believe that there is much in a name.

Explains Venugopal A., senior numerologist who was instrumental in changing the names of many in Mollywood: “Astro-numerology is a multifarious subject. It is a concept, a method, an art, a science that helps us find solutions to our problems while projecting a way of life for us with insights on the psychological aspects of our personality. It delves deep into the powerful and intense relationship between men and numbers in a scientific manner.”

Stating that the rapturous nature of numerology enables the present and future circumstances of a person to be predicted by connecting it with the number which correlates to the individual, Mr. Venugopal said that the numbers evaluated from a person’s name, his date of birth, names of business houses and other inanimate entities like his vehicle, bank accounts etc. have an enormous impact on his life.

“Everything including our hidden luck, emotional trauma and other events are directly related to our name and date of birth. Thus, astro-numerology offers us a new lease on life by providing us with the answers to life’s puzzling queries,” he said.

Saboo Coloniaa agrees and pointed out that the name change has brought a lot of changes in his life and career. “There is something in it. I feel that every alphabet has a certain kind of vibration. And this influences your life based on the planetary connection attributed to each alphabets,” he said. Inspired by numerology, Saboo has even named his institute, Saboo Coloniaa Institute of Design’, based on numerology.

Actor Narain also believes that the name change has worked for him. The actor had to his credit some of the runaway hits in Kollywood (Chithiram Pesumthady and Anjathe) after he changed his name.

According to numerologists, every letter of the English alphabet is represented by a number. They said that making changes in the name can help us in eliminating the negative energy associated with our date of birth and thereby increase the positive efficacy. “When a person’s name penetrates into the subconscious mind of a man, it creates special vibrations within, just as a chord of a musical instrument is struck to produce vibrations in the form of music. Since these waves render power to the so called vibrating number, the life of every individual is influenced in a considerable way,” said Mr. Venugopal.

But all are not ready to embrace the claims being made by numerologists. Stating that there were hundreds who have never changed their name or the name of their business house, Mathew Varghese, a public-sector employee, pointed out that people never think about their names or numbers until they have some problems in life. “It is the same case with astrology. Whenever you face a problem, you jump to a conclusion that your time is not favourable. The next remedy is to visit an astrologer or numerologist,” he said.

Anish Nair, an MBA student, said that thousands would have changed their names, if numerology could have altered the fortunes of mankind. But numerologists beg to differ saying that they were not forcing anyone to believe. They said that it was up to the individual to decide whether he should change one’s name or not.
