Teachers take out rally

Voicing dissent: The A.P. United Teachers Federation members at a protest rally on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD: The AP United Teachers’ Federation on Wednesday organised a ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally to press the government to solve the problems of apprentice teachers.

About 10,000 teachers from different parts of the State took part in the procession, which culminated in a public meeting.

A few hundred teachers were arrested after they were involved in a scuffle with police and for blocking the traffic. K. Srihari, K. Vijayarama Rao (Telugu Desam Party), M. A. Gafoor (CPI-M) along with MLCs K. Nageshwar, V. Balasubramanyam, K. S. Lakshmana Rao, K. George Victor addressed the meeting pledging support to the teachers’ agitation.
