HYDERABAD: It was a scintillating December evening and the stage was literally set on fire when two icons of the music world got together on stage to deliver an exemplary performance.

Jethro Tull, one of the world’s leading bands and sitar exemplar Anoushka Shankar held the Hyderabadi audience enthralled for a full three hours at jam packed Shilpakala Vedika on Wednesday.

Anoushka began her recital with a composition in ‘Raag Jog’ followed by ‘Raag Panchmasegar’, a classical ‘raga’. The stage was taken over by Jethro Tull minutes after Anoushka left. Anderson’s flexibility with the flute and his ‘pied piper’ antics on the stage cut a pretty picture. While veterans Doane Perry and Martin Barre were on drums and guitar respectively, David Goodier was seen on the bass guitars along with John O’Hara on the keyboards. The band led by Anderson had the audience screaming for more.

Known for its ‘farm songs’, the band played hits from the 60s such as ‘Living in the Past’, ‘My Sunday Feeling’ and ‘Heavy Horses’ from the 70s. The ‘jugalbandi’ between Anoushka and Jethro Tull was perhaps the highest point of the concert. It featured fusion tracks, which were especially composed for the concert by Anderson. A peppy lounge dance number ‘Tea with Anoushka’ was well received by the audience.
