Manmohan’s visit does not cause gridlock

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Bangaloreans have resigned themselves to traffic gridlocks whenever a VVIP comes to town. However, they were in for a pleasant surprise when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Wednesday visit went off smoothly with hardly a ripple on the roads.

The Prime Minister and his convoy had passed through New BEL Road, Sir C.V. Raman Road, Mehkri Circle Service Road, Ramana Maharshi Road, T. Chowdiah Road, Sankey Tank Bund Road, Raj Bhavan Road and surrounding areas, followed by scores of vehicles, belonging to police and other government departments too followed the convoy.

“We made elaborate security measures and requested the public to cooperate with us during his visit. Hence there was no traffic jam in city on Wednesday. All efforts were made to minimise the restrictions on the general traffic on the roads through which the Prime Minister’s convoy passed,” said the police official.

Mr. Singh was the first Prime Minister to land at the Yelahanka airbase after the closure of the HAL Airport.
