Santoshnagar tense

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Tension gripped Santoshnagar locality surrounded by several defence establishments following the firing at policemen by terror suspect Vikar Ahmed and his associates.

The shoot-out during daytime created sensation in the area that used to witness communal clashes at slightest provocation. As news about firing on the policemen spread like wildfire, people thronged the spot to find out what had happened.

It became difficult for police even to cordon off the “shoot-out spot” with scores of media persons descending with their crew and locals vying with them to have glimpse of the scene. Rumours of violence, attacks and explosions flew thick and fast only to escalate the tension. Police had a tough time in answering all such probing calls from people and sending their teams to verify such unconfirmed reports. Security was beefed up at all sensitive points in Old City and armed pickets were posted to meet any eventuality. Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party took out procession on Santoshnagar main road condemning the incident.

The sudden processions, on the other hand, held up traffic causing inconvenience to people.
