MTNL goes green
Sandeep Joshi
NEW DELHI: In an eco-friendly initiative, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. on Wednesday added eight Reva electric cars to its fleet of vehicles engaged in maintenance work in the Capital.
The State-owned company plans to add 32 more such cars in the next few months. “Our technical teams will now drive Reva electric cars across the city for maintenance of the network. We are probably the first government enterprise to procure a fleet of green cars, thus demonstrating our commitment to sustaining a pollution-free environment,” said MTNL Director (Human Resources) S. P. Pachauri flagging off the new cars.
According to MTNL Executive Director (Delhi) S. M. Talwar, the initiative would also help the company save on transport costs.
The driving cost is 40 paise per km compared to Rs.2.50 per km for a small diesel car.
