Unprecedented security for Chennai cricket Test

CHENNAI: Unprecedented security arrangements will be made for the India-England cricket Test at the Chepauk Stadium here from December 11 to 15.

The city police intend to take over the stadium, hotel (where the players will be accommodated) and transport.

Rec Dickason, Security Manager of the English and Wales Cricket Board, met Commissioner of Police K. Radhakrishnan and discussed the security aspects. He was accompanied by Board of Control for Cricket in India office-bearer N. Srinivasan and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association officials.

“Adequate security will be provided for the match and players. The police will take over the stadium and hotel ahead of the match to conduct anti-sabotage checks and deploy manpower strategically. We intend to advise the players to restrict their movements,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

“We have agreed to provide full protection. Players will have Personal Security Officers guarding them,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

Spectators would not be allowed to carry any baggage.

There would be no disruption of Mass Rapid Transit System operations close to the stadium.

BCCI officials had met Director General of Police K.P. Jain on Tuesday and discussed security issues.
