Special Correspondent

Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government has informed the Tamil Nadu government that the Neyyar is not an inter-State river, Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran has said.

Mr. Premachandran said in reply to questions in the Assembly on Wednesday that Chief Secretary P.J. Thomas had informed the Tamil Nadu government that Neyyar was not an inter-State river and the government was willing to release water from the river as per the terms of the agreement.

On noticing that a section of agitators in Tamil Nadu had attempted to raise the shutters of the dam, the State government had tightened security, he said.

Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy said a panel of experts had been formed for drawing up a treatment protocol. Management of the medicines counter at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital would be streamlined.

Irregularities had been detected in drug purchase. Certain doctors were still reluctant to serve in rural areas. The Kerala Clinical Establishment Bill would be piloted to monitor registration and accreditation of private hospitals. The draft had already been prepared, she said.

Minister for Law, Sports, Ports and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar said that Kerala Games would be conducted as a precursor to National Games.

Though the venues of National Games had already been finalised, infrastructure facilities for sports and games would be developed in all districts.

Sports complexes had been planned at Kasaragod, Kothamangalam, and Palakkad. The proposal to set up a kabadi academy in Kasaragod was being examined.

A football academy would be set up in Manjeri and archery academy in Wayanad.

Football tournament

The G.V. Raja football tournament would be revived by the Thiruvananthapuram District Football Association. The government would provide all support for the tournament, he said.

A Maritime Development Board would be constituted. Maritime institutes have been planned in Kollam and Kasaragod. Land for Vizhinjam port would be acquired without inconveniencing the locals.

Mr. Vijayakumar clarified that only 120 hectares of land was needed for the project.
