Karwar: The police, the fisheries and the customs departments, in coordination with the Karavali Kavalu Pade (KKP), held a meeting with fishermen here on Wednesday. The fishermen were apprised of the impending dangers of an enemy attack through the sea. They were asked by the police to inform them about the movement of suspicious vessels, boats or persons in sea. Addressing the fishermen, Circle Inspector of Police Anton John requested the fishermen to adhere to the rules framed by the different departments which would be mutually beneficial. He said that identity cards would be issued to fishermen and at least two of the occupants of a boat have to produce identity cards at the time of random checking to be carried out by the police and the customs departments. He requested boat owners to provide details of fishermen working on their boats to verify their identities. He asked them to provide information about any movement of suspicious boats in deep sea. For this, the police department will ensure that the frequency of wireless sets of fishermen matched the frequency of the wireless used by the police department. An arrangement in police control room will be made to monitor such wireless messages, he added.
