Chitradurga: As part of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, nearly 150 physically challenged students from 20 schools in the taluk participated in a sports meet organised by the Department of Education here on Wednesday. The venue of the meet was the Old Middle School grounds.

The objective of the sports meet was to encourage physically and visually challenged students to participate in extracurricular activities. Students from classes 1 to 7 from both government and aided schools participated in the competitions. According to the organisers, the students were selected at the school level by teachers before sending them for the taluk-level competition. Select students from the taluk-level competition will participate in the district-level sports meet.

Events such as 50-metre running race and shot put were organised for both boys and girls. Visually challenged students participated in events such as ‘hit the mud pot’.
