COIMBATORE: The Bharathiar Research Centre at Bharathiar University has identified the winners for the Mahakavi Bharathi Aiynthamizh awards that will be given away on December 11 to commemorate the birth anniversary of poet Subramania Bharathi. According to Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam, the centre had received 327 works from Tamil scholars under the five categories. The jury consisting of Sirpi Balasubramanian, Lakshmi Pothwal, M. Ramasamy, V.S. Kulandaisamy and Agathiyan, under the chairmanship of industrialist N. Mahalingam, finalised the winners. The five categories were Eyatrtamil, Isaitamil, Nadakatamil, Ariviyal Tamil and Oodaka Tamil. Mannar Mannan and Yugabharathi had been selected in the Eyatrtamil category. Pulavar Manian would receive a special prize in the same category. Pithukuli Murugadas and Nellai Veenai Saraswathi would receive the award in the Isaitamil category. Aaru Azhagappan and Somasundaran would receive the award for Nadakatamil. Nellai S. Muthu and K. Ganesan for Ariviyal Tamil and Thenkatchi Swaminathan for Oodaka Tamil would receive awards. They would be given a purse of Rs. 25,000, a shield and a citation each.
