Bangalore gets a slice of Spain

Staff Reporter

Mouth-watering: Zara hopes to introduce something new to Bangaloreans.

Bangalore: If you were to pass by Ulsoor Road and are in the mood for food, drink and dessert there are three very rewarding stops, all in the same building. Zara — The Tapas Bar, The French Loaf eatery and the Thai restaurant Benjarong have opened in Bangalore, after their favourable response at Chennai and New Delhi.

Wednesday afternoon marked the opening of Zara, The Tapas Bar and Restaurant. A concept restaurant that has seen roaring success since 2003 in Chennai, it promises to be the Spanish tavern of the city.

With different kinds of tapas or short eats and a variety of mocktails, the Zara staff hope to introduce something new to Bangaloreans.

Regi Matthew, Chief Operating Officer — Fine Dining, Oriental Cuisine Private Limited, said he is looking forward to foodies taking to the Tapas Bar. “From chicken satay to spinach croquets, we have a lot of special tapas lined up,” he said.

This 85-seater restaurant and bar also offers a full-fledged meal whipped up by Executive Chef Aji Joseph.

Mocktails and cocktails to go with the food, with no worries about mixing your drink, are another speciality at Zara.

Sebastian Galvez Bunge, General Manager, Zara Tapas Bar, India, has been working for years to nuance his cocktail-making skills, all given to you in minutes of your order.

Zara has simple, stylish interiors spread across two floors. The first floor has a sprawling bar, with cosy seating arrangements on all sides, following architect Gaudi’s concept of “all curves and no straight lines”. A meal for two with a cocktail each would roughly cost Rs. 1,200.
