Pawar to decide on Patil’s replacement

MUMBAI: From Mumbai, the political action has shifted to New Delhi. After a meeting on Tuesday morning, Nationalist Congress Party legislators unanimously decided to let party president Sharad Pawar decide who will replace R.R. Patil as leader of the House.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who has submitted his resignation to the party high command, too is in New Delhi and a decision on his fate is expected soon.
Mr. Patil resigned on Monday and left for his hometown in Sangli district in a private car. On Tuesday, he flew back for the legislators’ meeting in a helicopter.
Joint meeting
After the meeting of the NCP legislators, Union Civil Aviation Minister and NCP leader Praful Patel told the media that a joint meeting would be held between the NCP and the Congress in New Delhi on Tuesday evening.
He said Mr. Patil had resigned on his own. to take moral responsibility for the terror attacks.
Mr. Patil’s decision to resign was not sudden, Mr. Patel reiterated.
