Canadian team meets Ponmudy

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A Canadian team met Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudy on Tuesday to explore the possibilities of establishing one-to-one linkage between polytechnics in Tamil Nadu and Canadian Community Colleges and to provide technical assistance in establishing high-tech skill training centres in the State.

The Canada India Institutional Cooperation Project (CIICP) is a Technical Education Project, launched in 1991 through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Canada and the Government of India. In Tamil Nadu, during the Project Period (1993-1999), nine Polytechnics were under CIICP. Impressed by the positive impact of the CIICP Project in Tamil Nadu, an 8-member Canadian team visited selected polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu in November.
