TIRUCHI: E. Paneerselvam, Sub-Inspector attached to the Cantonment Police Station here, was arrested by the sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), Tiruchi Unit, on Tuesday. Sources said the Sub Inspector, attached to the law and order wing, demanded Rs. 5,000 from R. Marimuthu to settle a dispute. A retired Electricity Board employee, Marimuthu owned a lane that was adjacent to his house at Periamilaguparai here. A dispute arose between Marimuthu and his neighbour Leo over the use of the lane. A settlement came about after Leo executed a deed to the effect he would not use the lane without Marimuthu’s permission. A quarrel broke out between Marimuthu and Leo after the latter used the lane without seeking the former’s permission. Leo complained the matter to Sub Inspector Paneerselvam who summoned Marimuthu for enquiry. The sources said the Sub Inspector demanded Rs. 5,000 as bribe from Marimuthu to settle the dispute. The DVAC registered a case after Marimuthu preferred a complaint on Tuesday. A trap was laid and the Sub Inspector was caught while obtaining the bribe at Periamilaguparai.
