New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Congratulating Delhiites for exercising their franchise in the just concluded Delhi Assembly elections, senior BJP leader Vijay Jolly on Tuesday said the high turnout of voters for the polls was due to the anger of the common man against price rise and failure of the Congress Government to contain terror attacks. “The big turnout was not only due to the ‘Pappu’ campaign of the State Election Commission but also due to the increased awareness among the public and enthusiasm among the first-time young voters,” said Mr. Jolly addressing a press conference here on the Delhi elections and Sainik Farms. Lashing out at the Delhi Election Commission, the BJP leader said the names of voters residing in the New Delhi Assembly constituency were missing in the electoral rolls though they possessed valid voter identity cards. Stating that the Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit owed an explanation and apology to the citizens of Delhi whose names were missing from the electoral rolls, Mr. Jolly said those who wanted to exercise their right to vote in the Assembly elections were disappointed at not finding their names on the electoral rolls. Welcoming the “belated decision” of the BSES to electrify Sainik Farms and provide affordable power, the BJP leader recalled that he had taken up the cause of Sainik Farms electrification with the Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf at a meeting in 2004. Demanding immediate regularisation of Sainik Farms, Mr. Jolly said the Delhi Jal Board’s drinking water should be given to the residents there against normal tariff.
