Video cameras to check entries and exit of hotel staff ID checks for staff joining hotels made mandatory BHUBANESWAR: The hoteliers in Orissa have decided to strengthen security arrangements in their hotels in the wake of the terror attacks in Mumbai. The decision to take various additional security measures was taken at an emergency meeting that was convened by Parag Gupta, Secretary of the State Government’s Tourism Department. Several prominent hoteliers attended the meeting responding to the call. Photo IDThe meeting decided that hotels must display at the entry that baggage was subject to check and identification of guests should be taken along with residential address and phone number during the check. It was also decided to get the guest’s photo during check in. Further, it was decided to have video cameras installed in all important areas of the hotel with a recording storage of up to one month. No mobilesHotels must also install video cameras to check entries and exit of the hotel staff and no staff other than managers should be allowed to carry mobile phones into hotel premises, the meeting decided. “Venders and suppliers of the hotels should be given Identity Cards by the hotel to enter into the premises and will also be subject to checking by security staff.” According to J.K. Mohanty, Chairman of Hotel & Restaurant Association of Orissa, any new staff joining the hotels will now be required to provide the management with full identification by local police station/important citizen known to the management or any staff of the hotel. The telephone number and proper residential address of all employees must be kept ready by the personnel department of all the hotels for verification at any time whenever any incident occurs, the meeting decided. Special attentionSpecial attention has to be kept on guests who are coming for banquets, marriage parties and conferences. The staff of the hotel should be trained to keep a vigil.
