THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Sports Commission, appointed by the Government to study the present-day sports scenario in the State, will submit its report by the end of April next year. Stating this at a press conference here on Tuesday, the Commission Chairman, A.K. Pandya, said that he and his colleagues would be putting their heads together to formulate a report which was not high on prose but an action-oriented one, that would help the State to make further progress in the field of sports and games during the coming years. He said that the Commission had finished hearings at the district-level — the last one of which was held here on Tuesday — and discussed the various problems facing the sports scene in Kerala. Next stepNow the attention would be to meet specific target groups including State sports associations, the key officials in Government, MLAs, coaches, parents, teachers and head of educational institutions in the coming weeks. The Commission will also be referring to the recommendations of the two previous Commissions — the ones headed by V.R. Krishna Iyer, former Supreme Court judge in 1971 and the late P.M. Joseph in 1984 — before finalising its recommendations. The Commission prior to its hearing today had met different stake-holders including district-level officials, veteran sportspersons and others at its sittings in Kochi, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam over the last three days. To visit other statesThere were also plans to visit the neighbouring States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and to meet a cross-section of the participants of this year’s School Games in Chalakudy. Besides Mr. Pandya, the briefing was also attended by other members of the Commission, Pathros P. Mathai (former Executive Director of the Sports Authority of India), Olympian Suresh Babu, T.I. Manoj and G. Kishore. Later, the Commission also called on the Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar and discussed the various facets connected with the conduct of the 35th National Games to be hosted by Kerala during May 2010.
