KOLLAM: Sixteen school students from the State have been selected to participate in the National Children’s Science Congress to be held at Dimapur in Nagaland from December 27 to 31. They were selected on the basis of the projects they presented at the two-day State-level Children’s Science Congress that concluded here on Tuesday. In all, 140 projects were presented by students from 37 education districts of the State. (There was no representation from the Irinjalakuda education district.) Among those selected, five are in the junior category and the remaining 11 in the senior category. They comprise 11 girls and five boys. Two among the 16 are eligible to participate in the Indian Science Congress to be held at Shillong in January. They are Dibeesh T. (Vadassery GUP School, Wandoor) in the junior category and Priya P. (Vimala Hridaya GHSS, Kollam) in the senior category. Dibeesh presented the project ‘Health and wealth from waste fish and meat amina.’ Priya presented the project ‘A preliminary study on the wastage of fossil fuels in Kollam Corporation area.’ Others selected in the junior category are Ammu S.V. (Karunagapally UP GS, Kollam education district), Jilna K.M. (Edakkar ASV UP School, Thamarassery), Sreelakshmi C.V. (Chandragiri GHSS, Kasaragod) and Visakh C. (Kottila GHSS, Kannur). Others selected in the senior category are Anjali N. (Cheemini GHSS, Kanhangad education district), Anwar C. (Cherukunnu Government WHSS, Kannur), Aparna R. (Perambra HSS, Thamarassery), Deepthy J. (Neeramankara MMRHSS, Thiruvananthapuram), Isabel Mary Schiller (Chevayur PHSS, Kozhikode), Jasmin Elizabeth Jose (Changanassery St. Joseph’s GHSS, Kottayam), Jayakrishnan A.S. (Nedumangad Darsana HSS, Attingal), Jeena Varghese (Veliyam TVTM HSS, Kottarakara), Jojo Chacko (Thattamala SN Public School, Kollam) and Neerja Balachandran (Vazhuthacaud Carmel GHSS, Thiruvananthapuram). The State-level Science Congress was organised by the NCSTC Network, New Delhi.
