Meritorious candidates are being offered 100 per cent course fee waiver AICTE-proposed scheme for tuition fee waiver for women being implemented Manipal: Registrar of Manipal University G.K. Prabhu said on Tuesday that admissions for the 195 courses in 14 disciplines giving Bachelors and Masters degrees for the academic year 2009-10 were open. Addressing presspersons here, Dr. Prabhu said that Manipal University was known for its ability to foresee future needs of and demands from the industry and it designed the curriculum with the help of academics and industrial experts. As many as 24 new courses would be offered in various disciplines from the academic year 2009-10. The new courses are Pharm D, Pharm D Post Baccalaureate, P.G. Diploma in Dental Materials, M. Tech in Industrial Biotechnology, M. Tech in Geoinformatics, M. Tech in Microelectronics, M.Tech in Power Electronic Systems and Control, M.Tech in Printing and Media Engineering. M.Sc in Hospitality and Tourism Management, M.Sc in Phytopharmacy and Phytomedicine, M.Sc in Nutraceutical and Cosmeceutical Sciences. M.Sc in Nanopharmaceuticals, Master of Social Work, B.Sc in Cardiovascular Technology. M.Sc in Cardiovascular Technology, M.Sc in Medical Imaging Technology, M.Sc in Photonics, MS in Geopolitics and International Studies. MA in Cultural Studies, P.G. Diploma in Indian Art and Culture, P.G. Diploma in Corporate Communication, P.G. Diploma in Gender Studies. P.G. Diploma in Marine Tourism, and Certificate in Emergency Nursing. As a part of the outgoing initiative, meritorious candidates joining MBBS, BDS, and B.Pharm courses within the first 500 ranks and BE course within the first 1,000 ranks of the respective merit list are offered 100 per cent course fee waiver (subject to ceiling of 5 per cent of seats). Freeships worth Rs. 7.93 crore are budgeted for 2009-10. Manipal University also implements the AICTE-proposed scheme for tuition fee waiver for women, physically handicapped and economically backward (less than Rs. 2.5 lakh per annum) meritorious students for admission to BE, B.Pharm and BHM courses, for 10 per cent of the student intake. Candidates admitted to M.Tech in Software Engineering course will be offered 100 per cent freeship sponsored by top information technology multi-national companies. In addition, there are scholarships from Philips, GE, ITC, The Indian Society of Lighting Engineers, Harish B. Memorial Scholarship for MS students in Embedded Systems, and Medical Software courses. Apart from these, Moulana Azad Scholarship and Konkani Linguistic scholarships were available. Online examDr. Prabhu said Manipal University was conducting transparent online entrance examinations. Candidates could choose the place, date and time of their choice in any of the 23 Indian cities listed in the admissions brochure. Slots will be allotted on a first-come first-served basis. The candidates will get their scores immediately after completion of their online test. Online examinations for PG courses in medicine and dental streams would be held from January 18 to January 27.
