“Jayalalithaa should have submitted her views to panel”

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: If AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa required any changes in the reservation for Arundathiyars, she should have given it in writing to the Commission which went into the issue or could have asked someone to appear on her behalf, Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi said on Tuesday.

This would have strengthened the decision, he said. Instead, she chose to criticise him with harsh words. Mr.Karunanidhi recalled that even the AIADMK was party to the meeting called to discuss the issue of separate reservation for Arundathiyars that he had convened.

Ms.Jayalalithaa’s charge that he was trying to the cheat the community only reflected her desire to cheat the community, he said, and asked if this was how a responsible Opposition party functioned.
