Erode
ERODE: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Erode, on Tuesday presented a cheque worth Rs. 50,000 to R. Sumathy, whose husband D. Raja died recently. The reason the telecom major presented the cheque was that she was a BSNL subscriber. The wife of the deceased Erode Corporation driver said the money would go a long way in meeting the family’s financial needs. General Manager, BSNL, Erode, V. Sundar, said the company had a policy of providing insurance cover to its subscribers. The kin of the subscriber would get Rs. 50,000 for a connection if the customer either died in accident or suffered serious injuries to the extent of being incapacitated. He said if a subscriber had two connections, then the compensation would be Rs. 1 lakh and added that for every connection BSNL paid Bajaj Alliance Insurance Co. a sum of Rs. 2.58 as annual premium. At present, BSNL, Erode, is processing five such applications, Mr. Sundar said and added that subscribers need not fill-in forms for coming under the insurance cover, as they are automatically covered. Only after an accident they needed to fill-in forms, which was available at BSNL office as well as online.
