The modernisation plan includes branch canals as well. The Engineer says that the modernisation will include desilting the canal bed, filling sand at a few places, constructing slabs and lining the canal banks. BeneficiariesHe adds that the work will be done keeping in mind the quantity and velocity of water. And, it will also include farmer beneficiaries under the participatory water management scheme. Once the Erode wing of the Department submits the proposal it will be taken to the Chief Engineer, Chairman of the Cauvery Technical Cell and others before finalisation. The canal irrigates 2.07 lakh hectares in the district and neighbouring Karur. The Government is expected to take up similar modernisation works in Bhavani, Amaravathy and Noyyal.
