SHIMLA: Protesting PTA (Parent-Teacher Associations) appointee teachers who are sitting on a chain hunger strike here for the past two months met Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal here on Tuesday. Assuring them of settling their genuine grievances, Mr. Dhumal advised them to unconditionally withdraw their agitation and return to their teaching work for completing the incomplete syllabi. He also warned them to remain cautious and not allow themselves to be used by any political party or vested interests. The Chief Minister urged the striking teachers to update their qualifications and compete openly to get recruited for government jobs. He said 18,000 new posts have been created in the education department in this financial year itself Reminding the PTA leadership that their appointments by the last Congress government had led to vast disappointment among competent and qualified teachers, Mr. Dhumal said an opportunity should have been given to all and backdoor appointments should not encouraged. The Virbhadra Singh government had appointed an army of PTA teachers all over the State and hundreds of wrong recruitments with unqualified teachers have been identified by the incumbent BJP Government.
