Discussion: Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani speaking at the consultative meeting in Krishnagiri on Tuesday. — KRISHNAGIRI: Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani has urged the State Government to close TASMAC shops on Thiruvalluvar Day. Mr. Mani, who is here to take part at the consultative meeting of the party in connection with the women’s wing 30th conference to be held here on December 7, told reporters that the meeting would focus on total prohibition in the State. He said that the party had a meeting with various religious heads, experts from various fields, NGOs and social workers in Chennai recently and all of them were for total prohibition. He said the party founder S. Ramadoss and himself would take part in the all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to discuss the Sri Lankan Tamil issue. Mr Mani wanted the Government and the district administration to appoint an expert committee to prepare master plan to save the rain water during flood by constructing more check dams.He said PMK would prepare a master plan in this regard. On Hogenakkal issue, he requested the Karnataka Chief Minster Yediyurappa not to oppose the scheme. Flood reliefHe demanded the Government to start flood relief measures in Tanjore, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Ariyalur district on a war footing. The Government should provide 25 kg rice, dal, kerosene and clothes to the affected families immediately. The affected roads and bridges should be repaired immediately. He demanded that all those who had lost their houses should be given Rs. 10,000. Moreover, farmers who had lost their crops, turmeric, sugarcane and betel nut should be given Rs. 20,000 an acre. P. Meganathan, Kaveripattinam MLA, women’s wing treasurer Balasundari and other office-bearers participated.
