KRISHNAGIRI: Science teachers in the middle schools should encourage creativity among the children and bring the inherent talent from them, the Chief Educational Officer, M. Baskaran, has said.

In his keynote address at the in-service science training for middle school teachers, he said that the teachers should first understand the modern science concepts and experiments.

The training camp was conducted at the Arignar Anna College (Arts & Science), Krishnagiri, jointly with the State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai, on Tuesday.

He said teachers should interact with the children while teaching science lessons and conducting experiments. This would help create new ideas among the children. He also said that the communicative skill development among children was the need of the hour. The Scientific Officer, the State Council for Science and Technology, Jayapal, told The Hindu that the programme is conducted in 10 districts this year in two phases. In the first phase, the training programme is being conducted in Krishnagiri, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Namakkal and Tiruvallur from December 2 to 6. In the second phase, the programme will be conducted from January 6 to 10 in Sivagangai, Tiruchy, Theni, Perambalur and Erode districts, he added.

Science exhibition

Mr. Baskaran said that a district-level science exhibition would be held on December 8 and 10 at the Krishnagiri Government Girls Higher Secondary School. “We expect that about 167 High and Higher Secondary Schools will participate in the exhibition. Best schools will be selected based on their science projects and they will be sent to participate in the State-level exhibition”.

The Education Department is organising the exhibition. Last year the exhibition was held at Hosur. Kelemangalam Girls Higher School and Uthangarai Boys Higher School and some others schools were selected for the best science projects and sent to the State-level exhibition, Mr. Baskaran said.

District Educational Officer K. Krishnakumar and the College Correspondent K. Pugazhendhi spoke on the occasion.

Principal (In charge) P. Ponramu welcomed the gathering. Training coordinator A. Palanivel proposed a vote of thanks.
