Expressing solidarity: Schoolchildren taking out a procession at Agalar village near Udhagamandalam on Monday. — Udhagamandalam: By way of acknowledging the role of the security personnel in tackling terrorists during the recent terror attack in Mumbai and expressing solidarity with those who had been affected, various institutions and organisations in the NiIgiris district organised ceremonies and processions. In keeping with this, students of the Gurukulam School took out a procession at Agalar village near here on Monday. Carrying placards which condemned terrorism and saluted the brave security personnel, the students marched through Agalar. They raised patriotic slogans. At a ceremony organised in Coonoor on Monday under the aegis of the Coonoor Merchants Association (CMA) many lit candles and paid homage to the security personnel who had made the supreme sacrifice. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs. The President, CMA, R.Parameswaran presided over the function. At a ceremony near the town bus stand, many of the residents including children paid homage to the victims.
