Anna varsity, Wipro join hands to train engineering college teachers

MADURAI: Anna Universities, Chennai, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore are seeking the expertise of IT major Wipro for sharpening the skills of the teachers of affiliated engineering colleges.

Through ‘Mission10X,’ a non-profit trust created by Wipro, special training will be provided to the faculty of engineering colleges.

A meeting of Principals of engineering colleges in the Madurai and Tiruchi zones was held at the K.L.N. College of Engineering here, in the presence of Vice-Chancellors P. Mannar Jawahar (Chennai), V. Ramachandran (Tiruchi) and S. Kaliappan (Tirunelveli).

Making a presentation at ‘Educators Meet,’ S. Nagarjuna, Head, Mission10X (Wipro), said the training programme was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellors, who had taken steps to encourage the faculty to improve their teaching methodology.

A changing world challenged professional education. ‘Mission10X Learning Approach,’ launched in September last year, would enable the faculty to acquire high-impact teaching skills. So far, 449 teachers in the State had undergone weeklong training.

Mr. Nagarjuna said 1,300 teachers had been trained in five States.

Dr. Mannar Jawahar said ‘Mission10X’ had the laudable objective of training 10,000 teachers by 2010.

Dr. Ramachandran and Dr. Kaliappan highlighted the need for good teachers and updating their teaching skills.

V. C. Ravichandran, Director, Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC), said the employability of engineering graduates would improve, if there were well-equipped teachers. One training programme was under way at Karur.

D. Selvan, Senior Vice-President, Wipro, and S. Ganapathy, Principal, K. L. N. College of Engineering, were among those who took part.
