For the left outs: The Bishop of Palayamkottai RC Diocese Most Rev. A. Jude Paulraj blessing the construction site of the home for HIV infected and AIDS patients near Palayamkottai on Monday. TIRUNELVELI: A home for the HIV infected and AIDS patients as well as destitute women and their children will be ready at V.M. Chathram near Palayamkottai by May 2009. Foundation stone for this home, christened ‘Sontham’, was laid by Most Rev. A. Jude Paulraj, Bishop of Palayamkottai R.C. Diocese on Monday as part of the ‘World AIDS Day’. The home, to be constructed at the cost of Rs. 50 lakh on an acre land close to V.M. Chathram Community College, will be a boon to the HIV infected and AIDS patients, destitute women and their children, a hitherto neglected lot. Moreover, the home is also likely to house neglected tuberculosis and cancer patients. “Since this home will be located in a place close to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, the inmates can easily go to the TVMCH where they can get the ART drug,” said Rev. Fr. Joseph Kennedy, director of Tirunelveli Social Service Society (TSSS), which will administer the home. Director of ‘Saranalayam’ Rev. Fr. Johnson also attended the foundation stone laying ceremony. The TSSS is also planning to start a home soon for the abandoned mentally deranged women in a building to be provided by the district administration.
