Government to issue notification for recruitment of 15,000 constables shortly

HYDERABAD: The State government is likely to announce the modalities for constitution of the Special Striking Force (SSF), an elite force on the lines of the National Security Guards, to take on terrorist strikes, in a day or two.

Chief Secretary P Ramakanth Reddy convened a meeting of senior Home Department officials on Tuesday to finalise the structure of the new anti-terror force.

This comes in the light of the Union Home Ministry’s announcement of setting up branches of the National Security Guard in all the four regions of the country.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is likely to make a statement on the issue in the Legislative Assembly once the modalities are finalised.

Resolute mood

In an informal chat with some party leaders who met him on Monday,

Dr. Reddy announced the government’s resolve to take on terrorism and extremism with an iron hand.

Meanwhile, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy who reviewed the situation arising out of the terror attacks on Mumbai announced that the government would issue a notification for recruitment of 15,000 constables shortly.

Marine police stations

He said there was no shortage of staff in OCTOPUS and announced that the Government was contemplating setting up marine police stations and deploying the necessary force to monitor the vast coastline of the State.
