Status quo ordered on land acquisition

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered status quo on acquisition of some portions of land in three survey numbers in Peenya village for development of Peenya Second Stage Industrial suburb.

Justice Ajit Gunjal passed the order on petitions by P. Sarojamma, Lakshmamma, Narasamma and several others, all of whom had challenged the acquisition of their lands by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for development of second stage industrial suburb.

The petitioners said they had purchased lands in 1974 and were even paying taxes to the corporation. They said though the BDA had issued notices for acquisition, it had not taken physical possession of lands in survey Nos. 67/1, 67/2 and 68 in Peenya village.

They urged the court to direct the authorities not to take possession of their lands.
